What the Forest conceals

CE QUE CACHE LA FORÊT (What the Forest conceals) explores the invisible inheritance we carry within us: that of the family unconscious passed down from generation to generation. Personalities as varied as psychologist Anne Ancelin Schützenberger, systemic therapist Bert Hellinger and artist Alexandro Jodorowsky have, each in their own way, revealed the existence of these unresolved stories that profoundly influence our lives. Today, epigenetic research confirms that trauma can mark our genome, and be passed on beyond those who experienced it. But how do these memories get inscribed in us? How can they be recognized, overcome and healed? Filmmaker Louis Mouchet shares his own journey through this deeply personal film. This process was nourished by : The making of and follow-up to the film La Constellation Jodorowsky, An introspective dive triggered by the death of his mother and the simultaneous birth of his first child, A powerful session with Romanian therapist Cristina Schmidt.

Mexican Police on Parade

Picturesque Patzcuaro

Lake Patzcuaro, located 230 miles west of Mexico City, is one of the highest and most picturesque bodies of water in Mexico. The heritage of the indigenous peoples of the area, the Tarascans, still prevails, such as the production of lacquer-ware handicrafts, and the means of hunting and fishing, the latter which uses nets shaped like large butterfly wings. Although most current day Tarascans are Roman Catholic, they have not totally abandoned their indigenous pagan gods. On Janitzio, one of the many islands in the lake, stands a large statue commemorating José María Morelos, a prominent figure in Mexican liberation and a great benefactor to the Tarascans. Janitzio is also the inspiration for many famous paintings. The town of Tzintzuntzan just inland from the lake's shore acts as the regional center for the market and for festivals.

Copal Dreams

The communities of San Martin Tilcajete and San Antonio Arrazola in Oaxaca, Mexico are best known for being the main source of the "Alebrijes" (wood carving) in the state; a relatively new but powerful tradition in mexican folklore. In both communities, there is a family that claims they're father started this tradition in all the state of Oaxaca.

Mary Remembering

A short animated documentary featuring archival recordings of the filmmaker's Volga-German Great-Great-Grandmother, Mary Frank Lind, in which she recalls key memories of childhood—her father's windmill, warm rains, wolf sightings, bone trading, and her passion for carpentry, which broke gender norms but was supported by her father.

The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés

A thoughtful exploration of gypsy culture, an intimate portrait of flamenco guitar player Yerai Cortés and a healing family exorcism through music. Antón Álvarez (aka C. Tangana) makes his filmmaking debut with this documentary.

The three speakers represent two of the dialects, with the most common one - the middle dialect spoken in Riga and central parts of Latvia - not featured in the film. In intimate surroundings, a farmer, a schoolteacher, and a herder of ostriches talk about perceived differences between Latvian speakers, and about language policy and their lives.
