In Aix-en-Provence, feminist slogans dot the walls of the city. This is the work of "Les colleuses". Their goal: to claim their place in the public space, and to denounce patriarchal violences. For a month, we follow young Ameline and her friends. They tell us about their process, the reasons for their commitment, their doubts and their hopes.

Thumbelina

Born of a flower and growing to only a couple of inches tall, poor Thumbelina is worried she'll never meet someone her own size, until she happens to catch the eye of Prince Cornelius of the Fairies. Just as soon as she finds love, however, it's torn away when she's kidnapped by Ms. Toad. Now Thumbelina has to escape Ms. Toad's grasp and search for Prince Cornelius. Luckily, there's a whole city of animals willing to help.

Gloria's Call

In 1971, graduate student Gloria Orenstein received a call from Surrealist artist Leonora Carrington that sparked a lifelong journey into art, ecofeminism and shamanism. This short film uses art, animation and storytelling to celebrate this wild adventure. Now more than 40 years later, award-winning Dr. Gloria Feman Orenstein is a feminist art critic and pioneer scholar of women in Surrealism and ecofeminism in the arts. Her delightful tale brings alive an often unseen history of women in the arts.

For the last quarter century, Houston native Arden Eversmeyer journeyed across the country to record hundreds of oral "herstories" with a mostly invisible population that is rapidly disappearing. Old Lesbians honors Arden's legacy by animating the resilient, joyful voices she preserved in the Old Lesbian Oral Herstory Project, from first crush to first love, from the closet to coming out, and finally from loss to connection.

Demi-Goddesses

The second essay about still dominant dark aspects of our modern society. It is conceived as a surreal anti-patriarchal thought experiment and raises important questions about gender, power, and social change, prompting us to reflect on how historical patterns of discrimination and oppression might be either repeated or overcome in a reversed gendered world. It challenges the viewer to confront their own assumptions and biases, and to consider the possibilities of a more equitable society.

An exploration of entering and leaving consciousness from the perspective of non-human bodies trapped in everlasting cycles of abuse.

Naranja

Naranja is a woman that endures daily street harassment and catcalling; the constant sexualization and objectification of her body is reflected on the spots that these violent acts leaves over it. Naranja will have to react before the spots consume her.

After years of caring for her father, Bella falls for Ponce, a dreamer she sees as her prince charming. As their romance leads to marriage, she gradually loses herself, abandoning her studies, friends, and family for his world.

On the banks of the Vistula River, a mermaid, and a bar matron face off against gendered power. Through an emblematic confrontation with a young fisherman, they tear at the net of prevailing misogyny.

Toys Will Be Toys

The South Shields-born animator Sheila Graber looks at the growing gender bias in toys for girls and boys. At the stroke of midnight on Christmas Eve, monster killing machines and robots fight each other and toy soldiers in khaki battle against pink clad, cute dolls, threatened animals and fairies. The toys gradually find their traditional roles reversed and harmony returns to the fictional killing fields of a Christmas home.
