Sermon on the Mount

Questions occasionally turn up in the mind about those deeply buried stories that nobody was clear about. Can 8 young people find the real answer? What is the tree of knowledge and the forbidden fruit? Why did God make the fruit and let people pick it and eat it? It is Jesus who suffered for their sins, was resurrected and be-came the way of truth and a virtuous life itself. If people followed the way of Jesus, they would be resurrected and be unified with God and get into Heaven. But the reality is that the human world and God’s world are separated.

Simultaneously, a crisis centre dispatcher fields panicked calls from people experiencing real-life traumatic situations in need of immediate attention. The voices of these callers are interwoven with an intimate therapy session and a wandering taxicab to build a profile of a place where citizens want to be heard. Never showing the callers on the other end of the line, the film creates an aural overview of a darkened city. As the night progresses, the calls continue coming in, revealing the various struggles people are experiencing in dealing with conceptual fears and current woes—all in a world that soon may be over.

Greatest Performance

During a film shoot where abuse is disguised as artistic direction, a comeback actress commits a devastating performance to survive, exposing how cinema can construct and legitimize violence. In Ang Lihim ni Teresa (Teresa's Secret), she enters a set where authority is absolute and cruelty is framed as discipline. As production unfolds, she loses control over body, emotion, and authorship, where survival is mistaken for consent. When violence escalates, she chooses to live, burying the truth as the director’s collapse is rewritten as myth. The set becomes a crime scene without witnesses. In the aftermath, she is praised for her “courage” while a sound technician retreats into silence. At a commemorative screening, celebration fractures, revealing cinema’s ability to transform violence into narrative and absolution. The myth of the Kataw appears briefly through Ang Lihim ng Kataw (The Secret of Kataw).

God Laughs

In the heart of the 17th century, Friar Leopoldo da Casamacchia recounts the Gospel with a joy and freedom never seen before. While the Church speaks in Latin, he speaks to the people of a God who is close to them, capable of bringing comfort, hope, and even of laughing alongside them. His voice spreads from village to village, winning over thousands of people and emptying the churches. The echo of his message reaches as far as Rome, where the Pope entrusts the case to Cardinal Maculani, the most influential inquisitor of the time. What begins as a trial turns into an unexpected confrontation, capable of shaking seemingly unshakable convictions. While Leopoldo’s fate seems sealed, doubt begins to change even those who judge him. Because you can silence a voice, but not what that voice has left behind in others.
