An American Ascent

An American Ascent documents the first African American expedition to tackle Denali, North America's highest peak and explores the complex relationship many African-Americans have with the outdoors. As the United States transitions to a 'minority majority' nation, a staggering number of people of color do not identify with America's wild places. By embarking on the grueling multi-week climb of the 20,327ft Denali, nine African-American climbers set out to bridge this 'adventure gap' - challenging outdated notions of what adventure looks like by changing the face of America's biggest and baddest mountain on the 100th anniversary of its first summit.

Marcel is on the eve of his 95th birthday. He trained his two sons, Claude and Yves, in the world of climbing where they are key figures. When old age came, a climbing buff, Marcel could not give up his passion. He then begins a final procession towards his last Mirror at the age of 94, accompanied by his sons. The northwest wall of the famous 450-meter Argentine Mirror (canton of Vaud, Switzerland) is the scene of Marcel's adventure, at the height of his art, a feat and a beautiful family story.

Journey to the Outer Limits

Journey to the Outer Limits is a 1973 American documentary film directed by Alexander Grasshoff. The fillm is a National Geographic documentary about students in the Outward Bound program as they confront themselves while training to climb the Santa Rosa Peak in the Peruvian Andes. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

They were caught by a horrible storm which forced them to stay at an altitude of 8.000m for several days, all because they had lost one important day during their ascent. Kurt Diemberger and Willi Bauer were the only ones who were able to survive this inferno on the second highest mountain on earth - merely with serious frostbites.

It was directed by Bob Nesson in 1997 and produced by Environmental Recreation Group. It is a part of the series, "Anyplace Wild". It features Annie Getchell, Micha Miller, Mark Gunlogson and John Viehman.
