2023 IRONMAN World Championship Documentary

Since its inception in 1978, the IRONMAN World Championship has demonstrated not only the unrivaled physical ability and enduring drive of the top endurance athletes in the world but also some of the most impactful stories from the age-group athletes who compete alongside them. In 1991, IRONMAN began to package these stories into a documentary format, which has aired on broadcast television and streaming services every year since. This year’s IRONMAN World Championship special is no different. 2023 will chronicle one of triathlon’s pinnacle events, which, for the first time in the iconic event’s 45-year history, was hosted in two separate locations: the men in Nice, France, and the women in Kona, Hawaii.

Someday Again

Jazz, dreams, and hope. The protagonist of the film is Wiesław Mrzygłód, a musician and artist. He has an extraordinarily positive attitude to the world, life, and music. In the 1980s, together with the Old Dixieland Players, he played at the most important jazz events in Poland and Europe. Despite doctors' opinions, he says, "Someday, I will play again." He refuses to give up. The film was made using analog and combined techniques, based on drawing using oil pastels, prints, and re-filming methods.

Blue For a Moment

Blue for a Moment is a documentary portrait of Swedish-born, Berlin-based musician Sven-Åke Johansson, a key figure in European improvised and experimental music. Active as a jazz drummer, composer, poet and visual artist, Johansson has spent decades challenging artistic conventions and genre boundaries. Born in 1943, he moved to Berlin in the late 1960s and became involved in the city’s experimental scene, including the Zodiak Free Arts Lab. During the 1970s and 1980s he played an important role in the West Berlin free jazz movement around the FMP/SÅJ label, collaborating with musicians such as Alexander von Schlippenbach and Rüdiger Carl. Influenced by Fluxus and modernist traditions, Johansson developed a distinctive approach based on noise, reduction and the use of everyday materials, anticipating the Echtzeitmusik scene that emerged in Berlin after 1990. The film explores his creative process, artistic philosophy and lasting impact on contemporary experimental music.
