MARUSYA NIKIFOROVA: Ukraine’s legendary anarchist warrior

A film version of the play which captures the brilliant performance by the Ukrainian actor, Mariya Hadubyak at the play’s world premiere in 2023 @ Montreal’s La Sala Rossa. She brought the audience to tears and their feet. Written and directed by Norman Nawrocki, the play was part of the 16th annual Montreal International Anarchist Theatre Festival. On stage, Hadubyak portrays the extraordinary real life Marusya Nikiforova (1885–1919), a fearless and feared, bad ass, Ukrainian woman anarchist and feminist military leader.

Seas the Day: The Sailing Movie

Seas the Day: The Sailing Movie is a genre-defying documentary that blends real-world adventure with deeply human storytelling. It transcends typical sailing documentaries by blending docu-fiction with a narrative inspired by Joseph Campbell’s classic The Hero's Journey. Directed by Ryan Luskin, an anthropologist and teacher, the film follows his family's quest across sixteen countries, learning life skills from diverse cultures.

American Failure

American Failure takes an in-depth look at the music scene in Boone, North Carolina, focusing on local bands Babe Haven, Galloway, Kiss it Make it Better, Educated Guess, Solastagia, and Cigarettes @ Sunset. Through a mix of full-band and individual interviews, live performances at local venues, and behind-the-scenes footage, we follow these bands as they navigate Boone’s DIY music culture before and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Edward Abbey: A Voice in the Wilderness

When Edward Abbey died in 1989 at the age of sixty-two, the American West lost one of its most eloquent and passionate advocates. Through his novels, essays, letters and speeches, Edward Abbey consistently voiced the belief that the West was in danger of being developed to death, and that the only solution lay in the preservation of wilderness. Abbey authored twenty-one books in his lifetime, including Desert Solitaire, The Monkey Wrench Gang, The Brave Cowboy, and The Fool's Progress. His comic novel The Monkey Wrench Gang helped inspire a whole generation of environmental activism. A writer in the mold of Twain and Thoreau, Abbey was a larger-than-life figure as big as the West itself.

Three Chords and the Truth

The passionate advocates of the ‘Cigar Box Guitar Revolution’ express their love of making unique instruments and the democratic, re-cycling ethos of the movement. Many are from the UK’s northern, post-industrial towns, recreating self-identity through hand-made guitars. Their emotional connection with their instruments creates a unique sound which is quite magical. A cinematic short, subsequently commissioned by the BBC as Cigar Box Blues. The Angry Years

1970 marked the start of a bombing campaign by British urban guerrilla revolutionaries The Angry Brigade. Their targets, a bizarre mix, included the Miss World contest, Ford’s motor factory, the home of a conservative cabinet minister and the Biba department store. Following a two year hunt by the newly formed Special Branch, eight suspects were arrested, and following the longest trial in British criminal history, four young graduates were convicted of the bombings. The Angry Years tells the little known story of the Angry Brigade - contributors include Jake Prescott, ex Angry Brigade member, the journalist Paul Foot and the Special Branch detective credited with tracking the Angry Brigade down.
