April 2nd is the Autism Awareness Day and therefore Jacob Frey thought he'd share one of the first video projects he created. In 2006 Jacob Frey applied at the Netherlands Film Academy in Amsterdam and as an application exercise had to create a video to "being locked in a room". His skillset back then was very limited and he just started to dive into video software. Even though Jacob Frey got accepted to their course he instead decided to gamble and wait for the application results at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg. Luckily he managed to get one of the few spots and started his path towards becoming an animator.

Ian was born with cerebral palsy. All he wants is to make friends, although it seems impossible to achieve when discrimination and bullying keep him away from his beloved playground. However, this young boy is determined and won't give up easily. The emotional animated short film shares a story about a boy with a disability called IAN. Ian's mother created IAN foundation to fight against the lack of information and knowledge that often lead people with disabilities to be bullied and isolated. The short Ian rises from the need and goal of this foundation to reach every home with an inclusion message. Sheila, Ian's Foundation founder and works to make society understand that when talking about inclusion there is no time to waste. This award-winning film was written and produced by Gastón Gorali and Oscar winner Juan José Campanella's Buenos Aires-based animation studio took home the top prize at LA Shorts International Film Festival and several major international awards.

Dancing Trees

Martha (Katie Boland), 18, sees the world as animated and fun. She has a form of autism that means she is a mathematical genuis whilst incapable of looking after herself. Based upon Paul Gallico's delicate novel, Patrick Garland's Golden Globe winning The Snow Goose is a stark and hauntingly beautiful drama set amongst the striking scenery of the Essex salt marshes during the early years of WWII. A bearded Richard Harris leads the modest cast with his sensitive portrayal of tormented soul Philip Rhayader, a lonely misshapen man shunned by society but with a great love of life; Harris isnt overly bitter of his treatment and expresses his compassion through his paintings and love of the waterfowl that surround him. Harris is ably supported by the waiflike Jenny Agutter as Frith, who radiates the requisite amount of youthful innocence and naivety, and won a best supporting actress Emmy Award for her performance.

When I saw the struggle people with autism and their relatives go through--every day--I realized: if only people would be able to take a look inside the world of someone with autism, if only people would understand a little of what it really means for them, many judgments and dismissive actions towards people with autism, can be turned into motivating and stimulating actions. Understanding is the key for a change of behavior. It is my hope this film will create more of this understanding.
