Elmyr de Hory, le faussaire du siècle

He was the master forger of the 20th century: the Hungarian painter Elmyr de Hory. We will probably never know how many works by Picasso, Matisse and Modigliani still hang in museums and private collections. In addition to the life story of de Hory, the documentary also follows the paths of the two art swindlers Fernand Legros and Réal Lessard. In the style of an exciting investigation, the documentary traces the lives of three enigmatic figures: Those of the Hungarian painter and art forger Elmyr de Hory, the Frenchman Fernand Legros, also a famous art fraudster, and the Canadian Réal Lessard, also an art forger and lover of Legros. Legros was a character straight out of a novel: a millionaire at the age of 25 and a homosexual dandy who loved luxury limousines, fur coats, cigars, lavish parties and a relaxed lifestyle. He had an affair with Legros, but Elmyr de Hory may also have fallen in love with him.

Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise

Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise is a unique project in many ways. It is the life story of the legendary musician, but it is not a biography, it is a fairytale documentary! The director followed Lee Perry for thirteen years and discovered an unbelievable story, a revelation, told about and with one of the major protagonists of contemporary music, the other half of the story that has never been told. The movie can be seen as a guide for how to change the world with music, with a positive attitude, mindset or, as Lee Perry calls it, vibration.

People on Paper

Americans are preoccupied with the news, but need an escape from many of the events reported in the news. These escapes in the past have included dime store novels. The most accessible of these escapes is what are known as the funny papers, the set of serialized comic strips that are included within many newspapers. They appeal to all socio-economic classes, and all ages. Some of the earliest known from the late 19th century include the Yellow Kid, Little Nemo, Happy Hooligan, the Katzenjammer Kids, Mutt & Jeff, and Bringing Up Father. Many cartoonists are seen in action. Some originated their characters, while others have taken over following the passing of the originator. The joy of many comic strips are the absurd and the fantastical, which are limited only by the imagination of the cartoonist. Others are grounded in reality, which add to their poignancy within the public mindset.

The Lost Supper

This rare film tells the strange, disquieting and protracted story of the restoration of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous masterpiece, The Last Supper. Some say the results of the restoration are glorious. Others have called them tragic. Da Vinci’s famously fragile fresco was always going to be a challenge for its secretive Italian restorers. No one, however, could have foreseen how problematic and strange their task would become. Marked by a series of extraordinary mishaps, mistakes, and miscalculations, the incredible restoration is hilarious to watch but may have resulted in the loss of a masterpiece.

Between the scenes, between the voices. Unseen footage of the future sound of Slovakia.

In 2024, during an artistic residency at Periférne Centrá (Dúbravica, Slovakia), Cristian Estrella filmed the folkumentary „Medzi dolinami, medzi vŕški, po stopách budúceho zvuku Slovenska“ while producing the album "The Future Sound of Slovakia Vol.1" by Mira Tus Manos. But every film leaves scenes out. What doesn't fit due to time, rhythm, or because the main story needs to go elsewhere. "Medzi scénami, medzi hlasmi" is exactly those outtakes: already edited material that no one had seen, divided into two parts —SIDE A and SIDE B— where artists from Argentina, England, France, Catalonia, Amsterdam, New Zealand, and Slovakia speak not only about the project but also about their own artistic practices, personal stories, and internal maps.

Space, Land and Time: Underground Adventures with Ant Farm

"What we were trying to do was the ultimate form of architecture, which was predicting how society would use space, land and time." Curtis Schreier, ANT FARM Space, Land and Time: Underground Adventures with Ant Farm is the first film to consider the work of the renegade 1970s art/architecture collective Ant Farm, best known for its iconic land-art piece Cadillac Ranch. Radical architects, video pioneers, and mordantly funny cultural commentators, the Ant Farmers created a body of deeply subversive multidisciplinary work that questioned the boundaries of architecture and everything else in the process. Incorporating breathtaking archival video, new footage shot over ten years and animation based on zany period sketches, this film is about the joy of creation in a time when there were no limits. —Beth Federici

Rhythm and Movement in Art

This film explores the fundamental role of rhythm and movement in art, drawing parallels between natural phenomena and artistic creation. It demonstrates how artists utilize various elements like line, color, light, and form to evoke a sense of rhythm and motion. Through examples from different art forms, including painting, sculpture, architecture, and film, the transcript highlights techniques such as repetition, alternation, and accent to create dynamic visual experiences that engage the viewer's eye and imbue static works with life.
